ABOUT EDDIE JAMES
Edmund (Eddie) Clarence James III was a larger than life character whose life’s calling centered on his intense passion for motorcycling. Creating unforgettable long-distance endurance events for riders everywhere, Eddie’s rallies became legendary among the long-distance riding community. His charm, humor and imagination touched everyone who met him.
Eddie was tragically killed December 6, 2009. He was 46.
Eddie’s career followed his love of motorcycling. His early years were spent working in motorcycle dealerships in the Twin Cities area. In 1998 he accepted his “dream job” as the National Road Riding Director for the American Motorcyclist Association in Pickerington, Ohio. In 2006 he joined The Pediatric Brain Tumor Foundation “Ride For Kids” as a National Ride Manager. At the time of Eddie’s passing, he was fulfilling a yearlong commitment as Rally Master for the inaugural 2009 Iron Butt 5000.
In 1984 he founded TeamStrange Airheads which has evolved into one of the leading long distance riding organizations in the nation. In the ensuing years, TeamStrange established a reputation for hosting a variety of entertaining and challenging motorcycle events including the Minnesota 1000 and Butt Lite. In addition, Eddie was a regular finisher in the Iron Butt Rally – the premier long distance riding event.
